« In her own words, Seuss describes frank: sonnets as “a memoir in a string of sonnets,” an ambitious project that challenges notions of what an individual sonnet or sonnet sequence can contain. The 127 poems in frank cover a staggering range of experiences, including childhood poverty, the death of a parent, the struggle to find space and place in the sexist world of poetry, a close friend’s death of AIDS, two abortions, and a son’s addiction to heroin. As with any complex life, Seuss also carves space for the interior: philosophical speculation and meta-literary commentary appear alongside questions of art and posterity, as well as ruminations on popular culture and the nature of poetry. » (Diane Seuss in conversation with Tony Leuzzi, for The Brooklyn Rail)
